Felton spent his rookie year as a special-teams gunner. He played all 17 games in 2025 but logged 46 offensive snaps and three targets, catching all three for 25 yards across Weeks 3, 14, and 16. The profile that got him drafted 102nd overall was a Maryland senior season that led the Big Ten in catches (96, a school record) and receiving yards (1,124). His one NFL-ready trait is 4.37 speed, which happens to be what this receiver room otherwise lacks.

The Year 2 plan was the WR3 job that opened when Jalen Nailor left for Las Vegas. It closed in May, when the Vikings signed Jauan Jennings to a one-year deal and put him in that chair, dropping Felton to WR4 behind Jefferson, Addison, and Jennings. His path to snaps now runs through an injury above him or a real jump in route running under Keenan McCardell, the receivers coach who pushed for the pick on a shared Maryland tie.

QB Quality

Murray is the cleanest quarterback fit Felton has for the vertical role. Murray has thrown from shotgun on 84.8% of his career dropbacks, has real touch on throws of 20-plus yards, and his scramble speed pulls defenders toward the line to open grass downfield. In Arizona he turned a straight-line burner into Marquise Brown's 67/1,037/6 season in 2022. The limit is volume: his 6.9 aDOT ranked 31st and his intermediate production sat near the bottom of the league, so deep shots are a small slice of a short, quick passing game. None of it reaches Felton until he earns reps ahead of Jennings and Addison.

Playcall

O'Connell's offense is shifting toward shotgun and pistol with the Frank Smith hire, which opens more vertical isolation looks than the under-center system ran in 2025. It also leans on 12-personnel at about 24.7%, second in the NFL, and that squeezes three-receiver snaps and cuts the WR4 first. In 11-personnel, Felton is the clear-out man and a jet-motion option off Jefferson's crossers, but a settled top three and heavy two-tight-end usage leave him a thin, situational role rather than a real package.
