injuryLamar Jackson exits with ankle injury vs. Titans
Jackson was sacked near the end of the first half of Sunday's win over the Titans, his ankle caught under Titans edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. He didn't return and was seen in a walking boot postgame. Per Ian Rapoport's reporting, Jackson is considered day-to-day pending Monday's MRI; one outside medical opinion cited pegged it as a likely mild grade 1 high-ankle sprain. Backup Tyler Huntley threw for 98 passing yards across five drives in relief.
Fantasy take
This is the third time in two seasons Jackson has left a game with a lower-body injury, after the 2025 hamstring that cost him a month and visibly changed his rushing workload the rest of that year — he averaged half his career carries per game once back. A high-ankle sprain carries a similar multi-week profile rather than a one-game absence. If Huntley starts, Baltimore has gone 2-0 in his last two spot starts with Derrick Henry's workload climbing accordingly, so the offense doesn't collapse, it just looks different for however long Jackson is out.
injuryMariota's knee injury pushes rookie Kaliakmanis into Commanders' QB3 debut
With Jayden Daniels already out, Marcus Mariota exited Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Colts in the first quarter after aggravating the MCL in his right knee — the same knee that cost him time in training camp. Seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis made his NFL debut: 15-of-33 passing for 186 yards and a touchdown with an interception, including a 47-yard TD throw to Treylon Burks, plus 3 carries for 16 yards. Kaliakmanis attempted six passes of 35-plus air yards, the most in a game since Russell Wilson in 2021.
Fantasy take
Washington is now down to its third-string arm. Mariota's right knee is the same one that sidelined him for the preseason opener in August, and a first-quarter sack is a tougher way to aggravate an MCL than the non-contact tweak that cost him camp reps. Kaliakmanis's 47-yard touchdown throw doesn't change that he was pressed into his debut because Washington ran out of healthy quarterbacks, not because the staff wanted to see him. With Daniels' situation still open-ended and Mariota now carrying a second knee injury in the same spot, Washington's QB room has no proven healthy depth below the starter.
injuryChase in concussion protocol, Higgins battling adductor injury after Bengals' loss to Jaguars
Ja'Marr Chase missed the second half of Sunday's 22-17 loss to Jacksonville after a hit left him in concussion protocol; he must clear the NFL's five-step return protocol before Week 5 vs. the Dolphins (Oct. 11). Tee Higgins caught 11 of 16 targets for 157 yards before exiting in the fourth quarter with an adductor injury — per ESPN's Ben Baby, he tried to return but couldn't push through it. The severity of Higgins' injury isn't yet known.
Fantasy take
Chase's exit continues a season in which Cincinnati's passing game has leaned on him for a career-high target share; a concussion is the first missed-time risk to that volume since he signed his extension. If Higgins' adductor injury costs him practice time or a game, the Bengals' next pass-catching options are Colbie Young, Dohnte Meyers, and Mitchell Tinsley — a WR room with no proven target share behind the top two. Both injuries hit the same unit in the same game, which is why Cincinnati's receiver corps has real downside heading into next week's practice reports rather than just one player's status.
injuryBarkley exits with hamstring injury as Eagles' injury list grows in loss to Rams
Saquon Barkley hurt his right hamstring on his second carry of Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Rams and didn't return. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the injury isn't believed to be "overly serious," with further testing planned Monday ahead of a Week 5 matchup with the Jaguars. Philadelphia was already missing DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and also lost edge Jonathan Greenard (ankle) and cornerback Quinyon Mitchell (knee) in the same game. Tank Bigsby took over the backfield behind Barkley.
Fantasy take
Barkley's hamstring exit adds to an Eagles offensive line already shorthanded, the same unit whose 2025 injuries to Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, and Cam Jurgens coincided with his yards-before-contact dropping from 3.8 to 1.7. Bigsby has already filled the role once this season, carrying 13 times for 33 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 when Barkley left briefly with a stinger.
injuryRice, Thornton both hurt in Chiefs win; KC reaches out to Tyreek Hill's camp
Kansas City beat the Raiders Sunday but lost two receivers to injury. Rashee Rice suffered a hamstring injury and did not return; coach Andy Reid called it "just a tweak." Tyquan Thornton dislocated his ankle on a 55-yard catch from Patrick Mahomes and is out indefinitely pending further evaluation; the ankle was reduced on the field. Per multiple reports, the Chiefs have reached out to free-agent WR Tyreek Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus about a reunion — Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones are said to be "all for" it — with Hill reportedly targeting a November return from the multi-ligament knee injury he suffered with Miami in September 2025.
Fantasy take
Rice's hamstring interrupts a target share that had been climbing weekly before Sunday (2, 6, then 9 targets in Weeks 1-3, a 39% share in Week 3), with the Chiefs calling it minor rather than structural. Thornton's injury came on the type of play that had been expanding his role — a deep connection with Mahomes — and an indefinite ankle issue removes a receiver who was behind only Rice and Worthy in the room's pecking order. The Hill conversation is happening independent of either injury, with Hill eyeing a November timeline that would put him back on an NFL field before Rice or Thornton's absences are likely resolved. Jalen Royals and Noah Gray sit as the depth options if either wideout's recovery runs long.
injurySaints place Travis Etienne on IR; Kamara to lead backfield for MNF
Travis Etienne left in the third quarter of a loss to the Raiders with a hamstring injury and has now been placed on injured reserve. He's out at least four weeks; his first eligible game back is Week 9 vs. the Browns. Per Ian Rapoport, Alvin Kamara is expected to handle the majority of the workload Monday night against the Falcons, with Kendre Miller and CJ Donaldson also in the mix.
Fantasy take
Kellen Moore had rotated the Saints backfield all season rather than ride one back — in the Raiders loss before Etienne left, he held a 38% snap share to Kamara's 32%, with Kendre Miller (19%) out-targeting Kamara. The IR move removes that rotation variable for at least four games, putting Kamara in line for the early-down load Monday against Atlanta with Miller and Donaldson filling the complementary work. Kamara's per-touch efficiency has been declining this year, so added volume doesn't guarantee added production.
Monday Night Football: Falcons at Saints, 8:15 ET, with New Orleans down Etienne.
